Geothermal Energy in Support of Modern District Heating

Geothermal energy was presented as a viable solution for the modernisation and decarbonization of district heating in Bulgaria

On March 17, 2026, Eng. Nikola Sechkaryov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association Geothermal Energy (BAGE), participated as a speaker and guest in the panel “Modernization of District Heating Systems and Local Heating and Cooling Plans,” part of the event “Financing Energy Efficiency: The National Renovation Plan and the Role of Local Authorities,” organized by the Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect.
During the discussion, Eng. Sechkaryov presented the work of the Bulgarian Association Geothermal Energy (BAGE) – the only broadly represented non-governmental organization in Bulgaria that brings together experts, scientists, companies, and service providers working towards the development and application of geothermal energy.
The main focus of the presentation was the potential of geothermal energy for the decarbonization and modernization of district heating systems.
